RDA – What’s Happening, Where’s It Going and How Will SirsiDynix Help Us Get There?
Join us for an afternoon devoted to RDA (Resource Description and Access).
- John Attig, ALA Representative to the Joint Steering Committee for Development of RDA and Authority Control Librarian at Penn State University will update us on the JSC meeting that took place the first week in November 2011, as well as our ongoing efforts to address the issues raised in the Report of the U.S. RDA Test Coordinating Committee.
- You’ll hear from Sally Roberts, Librarian, Cataloging and Metadata at the Information Services Office, National Institute of Standards and Technology. She recently presented at the Metro DC SirsiDynix Users Group Meeting on the changes RDA has made to the NIST library catalog, including the impact on procedures and workflows 3.1. NIST also recently upgraded to Symphony, so there will be additional lessons learned from that experience.
- We’ll have an RDA Toolkit workshop, and each participant will get a 30-day free RDA Toolkit account.
- SirsiDynix representatives will also be on hand to talk about what the Company is doing to help its customers prepare for the changes RDA will require.
When: Wednesday May 2nd from 1-5 pm.
Cost: $50

SirsiDynix/COSUGI Day of Coding Pre-Conference
Aimed at Symphony users who are already API Trained, this FREE pre-conference does require pre-registration. You will be part of an online ½-day refresher course tentatively scheduled for Thursday, March 29, 2012. That refresher will cover topics such as programming/coding conventions, documentation, cross-platform concerns, custom vs. generic report creation, etc.
During the full day pre-conference (Wednesday, May 2, 2012), participants will be paired with other API trained customers and SirsiDynix staff to create reports as requested and voted on by the user group. Attendees should expect to produce at least one custom report during the day of coding. The custom reports created will be shared with other SirsiDynix Symphony Customers.
When: Wednesday, May 2nd from 9 am – 6 pm (tentative)
