Using Horizon 7.2--Day One
Here are instructions to follow on Day One of the Horizon 7.2 implementation. These apply to every Horizon user. If you are a supervisor of student workers, it is your responsibility to ensure that these instructions are followed by any student. If you encounter any problems along the way, call 2-8780 unless other instructions are provided.
1. Make sure you reboot your workstation (i.e., shut it down and turn it back on) on the date when Horizon 7.2 is first put into production. The network will automatically install an updated Horizon client for you. Allow the windows that open/close during this process to finish completely before you open your Horizon client.
2. Open your Horizon client.
3. You should see a new Horizon login window labeled "version 7.2". Set the following values:
| Field | Value |
| Server | UChicago |
| Database | horizon |
| User name | [same as before] |
| Password | [same as before] |
You may need to select from a menu to define the Server and the Database. If your user name does not appear, type it in. Notice that "Startup Services" does not appear on this first window as it did before with Horizon 7.03. More on that in a moment.
4. Click OK.
5. The Login Options window now appears. Set the following values:
| Field | Value |
| Location | [choose your usual one] |
| Default Owner | Unowned |
| Language | English |
| Window Font | [Arial Unicode MS recommended] |
| Font Size | [10 recommended] |
| Make Default | [check the box] |
You can choose different values for Window Font and Font Size. Feel free to experiment. You can always change them later. If you choose a Font Size larger than "10", you will get VERY large windows that may be unworkable.
6. Click OK.
[From now on, the Login Options window will not automatically display whenever you login. If you need to change anything on this window in the future, follow these steps:
a. Open your Horizon client to display the login window.
b. Type in your password. This enables the Options button. Click it to open
the Login Options window.
c. Make any changes.
d. Click OK to redisplay the login window.
e. Click OK to complete your login with your new Login Options.]
7. Your Horizon client window now opens with the Location you selected displaying on the title bar and on the Windows status bar (usually at the bottom of your screen). Formerly, you saw the Server and Database names.
8. Look at the left at the Navigation Bar. Formerly, you saw all Horizon functions; those with a lock symbol were those you could not perform. Now you should see only those Horizon functions that you can perform. Check this list carefully. Horizon 7.2 includes a new security authorization structure and your existing security profile from Horizon 7.03 was "mapped" into the new structure during the Horizon 7.2 upgrade. In the process, it's possible that your profile was mapped incorrectly. EVERYONE needs to verify his/her security.
NOTE: Everyone should now be able to perform certain functions which have been defined as a "Systems Basic" group applicable to all Horizon users. This includes the following:
Searching in Staff PAC (PUI)
Change Location
Customize Launcher
Everyone should have these--even if you did not have one or more of them before. Any others listed in your Navigation Bar should be the same functions that you were able to perform in Horizon 7.03.
If: (1) you have privileges that you formerly did not have (unless they have been added as "Systems Basic"); or (2) you do not have privileges you once had, report this to your supervisor immediately. [If the former, we trust you not to use privileges that you should not have.] Your supervisor will contact ILS for adjustment.
If you need to perform a function and the privilege for that is missing or if your list is completely incorrect, ILS can supply a temporary login that allows you to work while we fix your security profile. These temporary logins will be deleted two weeks following Day One or whenever all security problems have been resolved, whichever is first.
9. Provided you used your own login, you can now customize the Launcher or proceed with your usual work. Customization is at your discretion and includes specifying which functions your want to startup automatically, something previously preset for you. NOTE: Some users--mostly student workers--are not authorized to save any customized settings, usually because they may share a login. This means that any changes made during a session by such a user will not be retained.
Please consult the Launcher Configuration Guide for assistance [INSERT LINK]. If the manual does not cover a topic or question you have or there appears to be an error, please call 2-8780 or use Bugzilla [INSERT LINK}.
10. For those using Horizon cataloging, you must also attend a training session on the new MARC Editor conducted by Cataloging. Those of you in Course Reserve have your own sessions on the MARC Editor but you may also attend any of Cataloging's sessions.
11. For those using Horizon modules other than Cataloging, there are no other substantial changes other than working within the Launcher structure. Once you have opened the new Horizon 7.2 client and verified that your security is correct, you should report any questions/problems/concerns following established procedures.
