  President's Letter

This will be my last letter to you as CODI President. Let me first say that it has been real honor to serve as CODI President. I have learned so much from all of you. I have a much better appreciation for the issues that face us all. I have tried to serve the interests of the wide variety of libraries that make up the CODI family. The Board has accomplished much. We have reached a new level of International and user group cooperation. The fact that our next conference will be a joint conference with HUG is evidence of that cooperation. We have so much in common with the other user groups around the world that to ignore the opportunity for friendship and cooperation would be to do the CODI members a great disservice.

We have redefined the JAD process. With the hard work of Irene Kan Patrick the CODI JAD Member at Large, Carol Bursik the HUG Enhancements Coordinator, and Gretchen Freeman the epixtech Liaison to both the CODI and HUG Boards we have embarked on a process that will be beneficial to both user groups. The new JAD document is available for you to read on the epixtech web site or by clicking on the link on the CODI web page. Please take the time to review this important document and get involved in the JAD process. Your participation insures that the customers get what they want and need from new or redesigned products.

We continue to make progress at our International summits with epixtech in the areas of communication, sales and marketing, development, and support. We continue to have quarterly chats as well as meeting at user group meetings and professional conferences like ALA. The summit meetings insure that the lines of communication are open and that the company fully understands the points of view of the user groups. We have seen some very positive progress because of these meetings. The groups are getting faster, clearer and more candid communications from epixtech. And in turn, we are more open with them. The complete Summit Summary can be read on the CODI web site.

Before the last CODI Conference in Salt Lake City, we updated our By Laws and Bob Gale the Chair of the By Laws Committee continues to work hard at keeping our By Laws up to date and able to deal with the current issues before us.

All of the CODI Board members I have worked with during my tenure as President are hard working members of the CODI family and our list of candidates look as dedicated as the current members. Please be sure to keep involved by volunteering to run for office, serve on a committee, join a JAD, vote, or just send any one of us email. We exist to represent your needs to epixtech. My one regret as a Board member is that I have not heard directly from enough of you. We are here to represent the broad issues but also to help every individual CODI member in any way we can to mitigate problems and intercede on your behalf with the company. That is one of the chief benefits of belonging to the CODI family and that is what we Board members wish to do for you.

Thank you for making my time in office one of the greatest professional experiences of my life. I will be turning over the office of President to Greg Nelson in January 2002. He will be an excellent President because he has been an excellent Vice President and a joy to work with. I will continue my service to you all as Past President and a member of the Joint Conference Committee and other CODI committees for the year 2002. I promise to work as hard in those offices as I have worked in the capacity of President.

Eileen R. Kontrovitz,
CODI President
